ARTIST STATEMENT
I experience my art as a radical response and prayer to life. Each piece develops as a deep, evolutionary process, expressing my personal spiritual journey and the emotional vicissitudes of beingness. The sculpture arises out of an erotic dance between my hands and the clay, as we give, yield, caress, and let go into the unknown. My creative hope is to connect to you, the viewer, at a heart level. I am grateful to you for witnessing my creations, for the experiences from which the art has emerged, and for “Source” through which they arise.
BIOGRAPHY
I am a working ceramic artist in Ashland Oregon, showing my work at Old World Artifacts, 287 4th St. , and have shown my work in galleries in Christchurch New Zealand,; Oakland, Santa Cruz, Palo Alto, and Sausalito, California; Franklin, Tryon, Charlotte, Spartanburg, and Asheville, North Carolina; Sana Fe, New Mexico; Denver, Colorado; and now Ashland, Oregon. My background includes a Masters in Spirituality from the Institute of Culture and Creation Spirituality, at Holy Names College, in Oakland CA, and a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto CA, with an emphasis on creativity and spiritual guidance. I am registered with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association as an Expressive Arts Therapist. For the last 15 years, I have taught masters level courses at several Universities in the Bay area, (in the fields of transpersonal psychology, creativity and innovation, and expressive arts), facilitated expressive arts workshops, and offered individual sessions in expressive arts therapy and supervision for IEATA. I love facilitating the awakening of creativity and the enlivening of the connection to the souls journey through the heart center with the artistic medium of clay and embodied spiritual practices.
I continue to explore my own personal spiritual journey through ceramics and mixed media. I am primarily self-taught, and find the experience of playing with clay continues to be a passion. For me, the evolutionary, symbolic process of working with clay is magical. I moved to Asheville in January 2007 to pursue my art more fully and to continue offering classes and private sessions in “Clay as a Spiritual Practice”.
